University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill fraternity members who went viral for protecting the American flag during a pro-Palestinian protest received a warm response from attendees at the Republican National Convention.
The fraternity members, part of the predominantly Jewish fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi, held the American flag as the crowd gave them a standing ovation.
“When a mob tried to take down the American flag on our campus, we knew we couldn’t let that happen,” a fraternity member said to repeated applause. “We stood guard. We held it up and we did not let it fall.”
“It was all about respect not just for the cloth but for everything that the flag stands for,” he continued. “Too many people have sacrificed everything for it. The least we can do was keep it flying. And tonight we are proud to honor our flag again.”
