Former President Donald Trump’s chief pollster, Tony Fabrizio, listed Minnesota, Virginia, New Jersey, and New Mexico as toss-ups and implied Maine is in play while speaking to the Florida GOP at the Republican National Convention.
None of those states have voted for a Republican since 2004, when both Virginia and New Mexico turned red before flipping back to blue in 2008. None of those states have been considered toss-ups by the Cook Political Report, though they’re considered more competitive, except for New Jersey.
“Those are states that we’re looking at,” he said at the Republican Party of Florida breakfast Tuesday. “And believe it or not, there’s another state up north called Maine.”
