MILWAUKEE — The parents of an Israeli hostage being held in Gaza led chants of “bring them home” at the Republican National Convention.
Ronen and Orna Neutra, parents of 22-year-old Omer Neutra, told the story of their son being taken hostage last October and the struggle of worrying about him in the months since. The crowd broke into the chant multiple times during their speech.
“For 285 long days and nights, Hamas terrorists have been holding American citizens in tunnels in tunnels underneath Gaza,” Orna Neutra said. “Omer is a biblical name, and means in Hebrew ‘the first crop.’ He is our first born.”
The couple was living in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001, and Orna Neutra was eight months pregnant during the attacks.
“Here we are 23 years later, and he’s the victim of another vile terrorist attack,” she said.
