Rep. Celeste Maloy (R-UT) narrowly won her primary on Tuesday, ending nearly a two-month saga of recounts and legal challenges over Utah’s 2nd Congressional District GOP primary.
Maloy, who was sworn into office after winning a special election in November to fill the seat of former Rep. Chris Stewart, narrowly won the primary by less than 200 votes, according to a recount that was initiated earlier this summer. Republican opponent Colby Jenkins sought to challenge those results by filing a lawsuit to compel judges to count a batch of ballots that were collected with late postmarks.
The Associated Press called the race in Maloy’s favor at 10:09 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Maloy is favored to win against Democrat Nathaniel Woodward in November, securing her first full term in the House.
