Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) seemed touched during a campaign stop in Arizona Friday, when cheers erupted of his daughter’s name, which is Hope.
Walz was speaking on the topic of in-vitro fertilization, and mentioned how he and his wife went through fertility treatment before becoming pregnant with Hope.
“But when we wanted to have children, we went through years of fertility treatment, and I remember it was like it was yesterday, just waiting for good news, and then the phone would ring and you would be tensed up, and then you would hear that the treatments had failed. It would blot out the sun, that you just wanted something so beautiful and so simple – to have a child,” he said.
“And then one day, and it wasn’t by chance, when that news came and we welcomed our daughter into the world. We named her Hope. We named her Hope!” he said as the crowd began chanting her name.
Walz clutched his chest and then said, “I’m not crying, you’re crying.”
Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris are on a campaign blitz this week, making stops at many swing states including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Arizona.
